Ashtanga yoga is based on the precise weaving of body movements and breathing rhythms into a deepening flow of yoga postures. Similar to a cooking process, the heat generated, the struggle endured and the peace found combine to reveal the flavor of your being. We will stretch ourselves beyond the mat and asanas to discover how anatomy is the philosophy of our body and philosophy is the anatomy of our mind.
Yoga invites us to use our body to soften our mind. Conversely, meditation uses the mind to explore our embodiment. The two methods work together as perfect complements to awaken the connecting point that we are between body and mind.
Through a bouncing of practices, conversations, theoretical contributions and explorations around yoga and meditation, Damien will guide you towards the most beautiful encounter: Yourself!
A weekend with 4 workshops:
1. The Art of Meditation
This introductory meditation workshop is designed to help you discover the healing power of mindfulness and inner stillness. You will learn the basics of healing Buddhist meditation techniques, how to quiet the mind, and create a practice that fosters inner harmony. Whether you are new to meditation or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop offers you simple and effective tools to tame your mind.
2. Wake Up Your Core
In This workshop Damien invites you to activate your core and understand the building blocks of some of the power moves of Ashtanga Yoga (Jump Backs, Jump Throughs, Handstands, TicTocs..). He will also guide you to explore the deeper and inner elements of core activations known as Bandhas to help you find lightness and grace in your practice..
3. Anatomy of Yoga
In our experiential Anatomy of the Nervous System workshop, you will explore the fascinating connection between your body and mind through the lens of the nervous system. This hands-on session offers an in-depth look at how the nervous system influences movement, stress response, and overall well-being. Through gentle practices, guided movement, and somatic awareness, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to calm and balance your nervous system. Ideal for anyone interested in the science behind relaxation, movement, or yoga, this workshop is both informative and deeply restorative.
4. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Dive into the timeless wisdom of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras in this captivating philosophy workshop. We will explore the core teachings of this ancient text, focusing on its practical advice for living a more mindful, purposeful, and peaceful life. Through discussion and reflection, you will discover the eight limbs of yoga, the nature of the mind, and how to apply these principles on and off the mat. This workshop is perfect for yoga practitioners and curious minds looking to deepen their understanding of the roots of yoga.
About Damian De Bastier
Damian is a long time friend of Antwerp yoga, so we're very happy that he is visiting us again. His workshops are supported by his understanding of anatomy and philosophy and offer a glimpse into the infinite ocean of yoga. His understanding and his great experience of postures as well as his knowledge of massage and yoga therapy bring a holistic approach to his teaching where he invites students to deepen their practice of yoga while respecting the shape of their body and their personal history. He was authorized by Shri k Patthabi Jois in 2007. You can visit him in his center in Bali “Ubuntu Bali”.
